A collection that embodies precision craftsmanship
In northern Sweden lies a tranquil landscape, shaped over millennia by glaciers: smooth surfaces, natural curves, and forms sculpted by time. It is from this image that Ahkka takes shape, a collection of lounge chairs that translates the power of nature into a soft and minimalist design.
Environmentally friendly
Ahkka embodies a responsible approach to design. The decision to craft it entirely from a single material simplifies its lifecycle and makes it infinitely recyclable. This solution reduces the complexity of its components and facilitates the recovery of resources at the end of its useful life, transforming sustainability into a tangible value that is integral to the design.
Its lines are continuous and flowing, with no sharp edges. The external surfaces merge seamlessly, creating a compact yet welcoming form that asserts itself in the space with discretion. Ahkka does not seek to make a splash, but rather to establish a presence: a harmonious silhouette that interacts with the architecture and helps define the identity of contemporary lounges, reception areas, hospitality spaces and advanced work environments.
Viewed from different angles, one can appreciate the attention paid to proportions and the balance between solid forms and tension. The curves at the back and sides develop gradually, creating the impression of a single, continuous shell that encloses an ergonomic seat, with precise lines and meticulous detailing. The junction between the outer shell and the internal padding is distinct yet measured, in a controlled interplay between softness and formal rigour.
A distinctive feature of the design is its construction: the Ahkka armchair is in fact created by assembling multiple dedicated moulds – one for the shell, one for the seat, one for the backrest and one for the headrest – all made from the same material but with different densities. This approach enables optimised ergonomic performance across every part of the body, precisely adjusting comfort without the need for different materials. The combination of a single material and multiple moulds lies at the technical heart of the project and reflects a collaborative effort between design and engineering that took over two years of development to achieve the perfect balance between comfort, performance and eco-sustainability.
The collection includes a version with a standard backrest, a taller, more enveloping wingback, and a matching footrest. The wingback variant enhances the sense of protection, creating a small domestic space within open-plan areas and shared environments: a space within a space, designed for private conversations or moments of respite.
Within this enveloping form, the focus on comfort translates into integrated and carefully considered solutions. The cushion incorporated into the backrest, which also serves as a headrest, naturally supports the upper back and neck, making the seat particularly comfortable even for prolonged periods. The swivel base and generous armrests complete a fluid and welcoming user experience, designed to accompany moments of relaxation, waiting or conversation.
Ahkka reinterprets the contemporary lounge chair as a synthesis of sculptural aesthetics, functionality and environmental awareness. A collection that offers flexibility in terms of configurations, materials and finishes, capable of blending seamlessly into contract and workplace settings, helping to create welcoming, cohesive and distinctive spaces. Not merely a seat, but a form designed to embrace, protect and shape new ways of relating.
